Matthew (Matt) is a personable, and professional mediator, who we are delighted to welcome to the Creative Family Law Solutions mediation team. Matt’s ethos is to support families in conflict to resolve difficult questions, guided by the principals of attentiveness, responsibility, competence, and responsiveness – values that align closely with CFLS.
Matt is a nationally accredited mediator who completed his mediation training with the Australian Disputes Center, a Registered Mediator Accreditation Body with the Australian Mediator Standards Board and is currently accredited under the National Mediation Accreditation Scheme. (No 105-5841) Later, he completed additional training with the Australian Mediation Association.
Matt focuses on supporting and empowering families in conflict to come to workable resolutions regarding difficult and complex problems and issues, through an attentive, empathetic, and trust building framework. Matt guides individuals though the mediation process with the important goal of preserving the interpersonal relationships between the people in conflict.
Communication, trust, and respect are important and fundamental qualities that guides Matt’s approach to mediation. His many years’ experience in creative problem solving allows him to be highly responsive to the needs of his clients, whist his interest and background in technology can be seen in his embrace of innovation to help facilitate the human process of dispute resolution.
Matt comes from a business background and has completed an Advanced Diploma of Legal Practice, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honors). Matt’s honors dissertation is on the complex interaction of gender identity and family law, demonstrating a deep understanding of the issues faced by families in the current climate of the 21st century.
Matt also has a keen interest in tenancy law, volunteering as a case worker for the Rental and Housing Union to support and empower some of Victoria’s most vulnerable renters. Matt found his way to CFLS in 2022 during a placement, and we are thrilled to welcome him aboard now to assist and compliment our growing team.
Outside of mediation and the law, Matt is a family man, and loves spending time with his wife, three children, and his extended family who are spread across Victoria. He has a great interest in gardening and loves to get his hands dirty in the family’s vegetable patch. A long-time member of the Carlton Football Club, an ideal Saturday afternoon is watching the Blues beating the Pies at the hallowed MCG. Matt is also a keen reader with a strong interest in philosophy, particularly the French thinker Gilles Deleuze. Two of his favorite novels are the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and 1984. When he can find the time, he also loves to rewatch the extended cut of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
