Children’s Bill of Rights after Separation

  1. The right to love and be loved by both parents without feeling disapproval or guilt.
  2. The right to be protected from either parent’s anger with the other parent.
  3. The right to be kept out of the middle of parental battles.
  4. The right not to pick sides.
  5. The right to avoid any complaints about the other parent.
  6. The right not to have to choose one parent over the other.
  7. The right not to take on the burden of either parent’s emotional problems.
  8. The right to know well in advance about important changes that could affect them.
  9. The right to reasonable financial support while growing up and going to school and university.
  10. The right to express feelings and have them heard by both parents.
  11. The right to have a life as close as possible to what they would have had before separation.
  12. The right to be a kid.
