About

Lorna Thompson

[We’re in family law to help send clients] on a new path to a brighter future, so they can move on and get through an often very stressful time.

With over 20 years of experience, Senior Paralegal Lorna Thompson brings a maturity and adaptability to her role at CFLS that encapsulates what it means to do meaningful, effective work with a team player mindset. Lorna’s affection for the law began after leaving school at age 16 to work as an office junior in one of the largest legal offices in Scotland. Following a fateful sea change from her hometown of Edinburgh to travel solo in Sydney during her twenties, Lorna quickly earned her stripes working for Legal Aid (in Sydney and Melbourne), Patrick Robinson & Co, Calleas Le Brun & Burke, and later assisting Ms Judy Hogg and her team at Hogg & Reid.

These roles saw Lorna support her Principals and team members in a range of matters, including personal injuries, Wills & Probate, commercial law and family law. The area of family law became a passion for Lorna, and having later worked for 10 years at Williams Winter, it was here that she played an instrumental role in the creation of their family law department.

Within Lorna is a curiosity to learn and explore new avenues, not to mention a desire to support people undergoing often traumatic and challenging life experiences. With a fastidious nature and understanding of the rigorous family law system, Lorna brings a gentle and calm energy to all that she does – working hard to support those around her.

She is a valued resource who mentors junior staff members across our general family law and ICL departments where needed. With her warm, cracking sense of humour, Lorna put everyone at ease in our joyful and connected team. Between day-to-day operations, her shared Scottish heritage with our very own Susan Hamilton-Green occasionally evokes insightful conversations about Scottish factoids!

Family and friendship is of great importance to Lorna, who loves to spend quality time with her children and loved ones. Having seen much of what Australia has to offer, her favourite places to visit include the Great Ocean Road, the Grampians and anywhere with a beautiful view. With a penchant for the beach, it is only natural that Lorna resides in the Bayside area of Melbourne, with its fresh sea air and iconic walking tracks.

Whether she is attending a spin bike class at her local gym, or bushwalking with her dogs – one of which is a very adorable golden retriever – Lorna is an active and adventurous spirit, both in her personal life and her legal practice.
